  • UTICA — Richard Hanna has an opponent for 2014.
Conservative republican Michael Kicinski, of Earlville, announced his plans to run in next year’s race for the 22nd District Congressional seat.
“We supported Richard Hanna in 2010, but we fond Richard Hanna did not fulfill his promises,” Kicinski said during his announcement event at Denny’s restaurant in North Utica.
Kicinski ran an unsuccessful Republican primary against Hanna in 2012, and then conducted a write-in campaign in the general election.
Hanna spokeswoman Renee Gamela declined to comment on Kicinski’s announcement.
Kicinski, 55, said he is a social and fiscal conservative. He pointed to Hanna’s support of gay rights and abortion rights as particular reasons he is running against Hanna.
He also said Hanna’s votes show he is not as fiscally conservative as he claims.
“Things he says are one thing,” Kicinski said. “Things he says are another.
Kicinski is an electronics engineer, but is currently unemployed. His wife Cathy is a registered nurse. They have 12 children.
Another conservative Republican, Michael Vasquez, of Binghamton, has said he is exploring the possibility of a run as well.
