  • HERKIMER — Customers of Hannaford Groceries can support their local Salvation Army at check out this holiday season.
Through Nov. 30, customers are being asked to make a $2 or $5 donation to the organization, according to a news release.
“A small donation at check-out can help us to make Christmas brighter for many families, but also supports the year-long programs and services at the Army,” said Major Donald Hostetler, divisional commander of the Empire State Division of The Salvation Army, in the release.
Contributions also may be made at red kettles throughout the area. This year, people may sign up to be online bell-ringers at www.onlineredkettle.org. The program allows individuals and organizations to host a virtual red kennel that they can promote through websites, social media and email.
