NEW YORK (AP) — The NYPD has no tolerance for an annual holiday tradition known as SantaCon.
Lt. John Cocchi of the Midtown North Precinct sent a letter to bar owners in his precinct asking them not to serve alcohol to patrons dressed as Santa Claus during the Dec. 14 event this year.
He said “having thousands of intoxicated partygoers roam the streets urinating, littering, vomiting and vandalizing will not be tolerated in our neighborhood.”
Cocchi said the negative impact of the charity bar crawl “will far outweigh the short-term benefit.”
The event website offers a code for participants to follow, including not drinking “more than Santa can handle.”
According to the Daily News, the webmaster for SantaCon’s home page wrote: “SantaCon is just a silly, fun thing to do.”
