  • HERKIMER — The Depression Boys welcomed local historian and author Jim Greiner as the guest speaker at their November meeting.
Greiner recently released his new book, “Last Woman Hanged,” a true story about the locally infamous murder that took place in the town of Warren.
Roxalana Druse and her children suffered from abuse and domestic violence at the hands of her husband, William. On Dec. 18, 1884, Druse murdered her husband and later all that was to be found of William were bone fragments. Druse’s crime led her to the gallows and in 1887 she became the last woman to be hung in New York.
Greiner told the group his goal was to tell a good story, take away the myths and find the truth.
If anyone is interested in purchasing “Last Woman Hanged” or any of Greiner’s books, visit the Herkimer County Historical Society at 400 N. Main St. in Herkimer.
The group’s next meeting will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Claxton Dining Room of the Folts Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Stacey (Jerry) Dunton, resident of Claxton and motivational speaker, will be the guest speaker.
