LITTLE FALLS — Authorities are waiting for a Little Falls man who was shot by police to be released from the hospital before having him charged in connection to an incident last week, police said.
Kyle Edick, 23, was expected to be released sometime Monday, at which time he was to be taken into the custody of law enforcement, state police said. What charges he will face have not yet been released.
In the meantime, state police will work with the Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office to determine if an investigator’s use of force against Edick was proper, officials said. An internal review is also under way to examine the investigator’s actions.
Two state police investigators tried stopping Edick Friday afternoon at the intersection of North Ann and Gansevoort streets in Little Falls. Early reports Friday indicated Edick was being stopped due to arrest warrants.
Edick allegedly put his vehicle in reverse and struck a police vehicle, injuring the investigator inside, state police said. He then sped the minivan toward the second investigator, who fired two rounds at the vehicle, police said.
Edick was located several hours later in the nearby town of Manheim, and has been hospitalized ever since for a gunshot wound to his elbow, police said.
