ROME — Karate is a way to have fun and get in shape at the same time, according to a news release from the Girl Scouts.
Girls that participate in karate will develop muscle strength, flexibility and coordination, according to the release.
Two karate programs will be offered on Dec. 14 at Bailey’s Karate Schools in Rome for girls. New members are welcome and pre-registration is required.
Girls in second and third grade may attend the learn karate program from 10 to 10:45 a.m. where they will learn the basics of martial arts.
Girls in fourth through teneth grades may attend a program from 11 to 11:45 a.m. where they will also learn conflict resolution and confidence strategies.
By attending the programs girls will develop a strong sense of self, develop critical thinking and develop healthy relationships, according to the release.
The cost to attend either program is $6 per girl. Girls that are not currently registered Girl Scouts that want to attend can by paying the additional $15 Girl Scout registration fee. Financial assistance is available.
