LITTLE FALLS — The Herkimer County Prevention Council’s Prescription Drop Box has been moved from the Town of Webb Police Department to its new location at the Little Falls Police Department, 659 E. Main St., Little Falls.
Residents are welcome to drop off their unwanted, unused or expired medications or prescriptions at the police department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Prescription drug abuse has become a growing epidemic, according to a news release. One in four teens, 24 percent, report having misused or abused a prescription drug at least once in their lifetime, which translates to about 5 million teens, according to the release.
Proper disposal of medications is one prevention measure. The prescription drop box was previously located at the Ilion, Dolgeville, Frankfort and the Town of Webb police departments. The Herkimer County Prevention Council, a program of Catholic Charities, will continue to provide the drop box to assist local police departments in their efforts to remove prescription drugs from circulation in Herkimer County.
For more information on the prescription drop box contact Maureen Petrie at 894-9917, ext. 244, or check the prevention council’s website at www.herkimerprevention.org.
