  • Christmas in Ilion celebration to begin Dec. 8

  • ILION — Christmas in Ilion will include Santa Claus, a tree lighting and caroling as part of its week of events to celebrate the holiday.
    The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, with the lighting of the tree in front of Annunciation Church. Then at 6:15 p.m., Santa Claus will arrive and elementary school students will give their donations from the “Pennies For Paws” campaign to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
    After the event, there will be refreshments in the Annunciation Church auditorium, where children will be able to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments. There will also be an opportunity to register to win one of the 10 bicycle giveaways.
    On Monday, Dec. 9, a tour of lights will start a 6:10 p.m. Individuals are welcome to register their display at the Ilion Municipal Building, 49 Morgan St.
    On Tuesday, Dec. 10, students in grades 5-6 at Jarvis Middle School in Mohawk will perform a Christmas concert.
    On Wednesday, Dec. 11, there will be caroling at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, 99 Sixth Ave.
    On Thursday, Dec. 12, there will be a Senior Ball at Francesca’s Banquets and Catering from 4 to 7 p.m. Attendees must be 55 years of age or older to attend. Call Fred or Ro at 894-5961 to make reservations. Students in grades 7-12 will present a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. at Central Valley Academy.
    On Friday, Dec. 13, there will be a night of singing and sundaes in the Annunciation School auditorium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a food item collection at the door to benefit the local food pantry.
    On Tuesday, Dec. 31 there will be a New Year’s Eve celebration from 10 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Details on this event will follow.
    Christmas in Ilion is on Facebook. It describes itself as a community organization “to bring peace, happiness and joy of the Christmas season to Ilion.”
