HERKIMER — Symphoria Pops will present a holiday tradition with special guest Tish Oney at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at Herkimer Junior-Senior High School. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
Oney, a doctor in musical arts in jazz studies from the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music, was featured as a big band symphonic vocalist in the 2007 PBS broadcast concert, “We Love Ella! A Tribute to the First Lady of Song” at the Galen Center.
Dr. Oney was also honored as an Artist-in-Residence in 2010 at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music, in 2011 at the Master’s College, in 2012 at Furman University and in 2013 at Francis Marion University; and was recently awarded a grant from the USC Upstate Department of Research and Sponsored Awards to develop two nationally touring symphony shows. She has performed with Les Brown, Michael Feinstein’s Park Avenue cabaret and Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in New York.
Leading the performance of the Herkimer concert will be Principal Pops Conductor Sean O’Loughlin. The program will include many new arrangements and a special guest from the North Pole.
General admission tickets may be purchased online at experiencesymphoria.org. Reserved seats are still available for $20. Tickets will also be available at the door. Members of the school’s Student Council will sponsor a concession in the school cafeteria during intermission.
