  • GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL: Mt. Markham sweeps to victory

  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs swept three games on the road Monday and started the season with a 25-10, 25-9, 25-17 win over the Little Falls Mounties.
    Kaleigh Bryce had seven aces, five kills, five assists and four digs for the Mustangs (1-0); Olivia Thomson served eight aces with one dig; Megan Wool had seven digs, three aces and an assist; and Hannah Barrett had five assists, three aces and one dig.
    Tara Van Alstine had four digs and a kill for Little Falls (0-1); Winter Polnak had two digs, an ace and a kill; Kourtney Moser had three digs and an ace; Lindsey Tolman had three digs and an assist; Faith Randall had three digs; and Samantha Ackerman had one assist.
    Mt. Markham won the junior varsity match in two games, winning by scores of 25-10, 25-11. Casey Baumeister had three digs, two kills, an ace and an assist for Little Falls; Molly Bucenec had two kills, two digs and an ace; Taylor Giaquinto had had two digs and a kill; Rebecca Swart served a pair of aces; Kaytlyn Slaboc had had a kill and an assist; and Shelby Muller had two digs.
    Both teams play again Wednesday, Mt. Markham at Cooperstown and Little Falls at home against Westmoreland.
