  • HERKIMER — The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Information Technology Academy received a Genesis Group “outstanding program” award for its ability to help students prepare for college and careers.
The ITA was among the programs and educators honored at the Genesis Group’s eighth annual Celebration of Education on Nov. 21 at Hart’s Hill Inn, Whitesboro.
Students in the ITA can focus on either business management or network administration. The program makes students qualified for entry-level jobs in either field and earns them a full year’s worth of Herkimer County Community College credits, which also can be transferred to any college that accepts HCCC credits.
“What the program does is it gives students insight into what is potentially out there for them,” ITA instructor Tony Masala said. “It helps them look beyond high school to see what their future can be.”
Herkimer BOCES Career and Technical Education Principal Kathy Fox accepted the award at the Genesis Group event and presented it to Masala the next day at BOCES.
“It’s an honor to accept this award on behalf of the program and the BOCES as a whole — especially the Career Tech Center,” Masala said.
The Genesis Group also recognized three “outstanding educators” from Herkimer BOCES component districts — Delvina “Dee” Talarico, of Frankfort-Schuyler; Jason Mitchell, of Poland; and Kathleen Carney, of Herkimer.
