  • HERKIMER — Assemblyman Marc Butler will partner with the Central New York Region Red Cross to collect Holiday Mail for Heroes.
Butler is encouraging constituents to fill out one or more extra holiday cards thanking the nation’s troops. The Red Cross will then distribute the cards to the country’s military men and women overseas.
“We want our brave men and women, who are protecting our country and freedoms, to know that they are always in our hearts and minds, especially during the holidays,” said Butler, R-Newport, in a news release. “We want to share a little comfort and joy with them no matter how far from home they may be.”
Constituents may drop off cards at Butler’s Herkimer district office at 235 N. Prospect St.. Cards may not have glitter, inserts, cash or any other attachments included. Messages wishing good holiday cheer and thanks are enough.
Since the program began, the Red Cross has distributed over 6.5 million holiday cards and notes to soldiers overseas. The Red Cross serves two million members of the military, 24 million veterans and their families.
