COLD BROOK — State police arrested Terry L. Warney, 45, of 805 Hall Road, Cold Brook, on a weapon charge Saturday following an investigation conducted in conjunction with state Department of Environmental Conservation Police.
Warney was charged by state police with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. Warney, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a centerfire hunting rifle subsequent to a traffic stop, of the vehicle he was operating on Burt Road in the Town of Norway, by DEC Officer Corey Schoonover.
Further investigation revealed that the rifle was loaded when it was located within the vehicle. Through interview of Warney, it was also learned that he had taken a deer in the Town of Litchfield earlier this hunting season utilizing a gun that he was, by law, forbidden to possess.
Warney was also ticketed for the Environmental Conservation Law charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and taking of a deer illegally.
