  • GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL: Dolgeville wins holiday tournament

  • DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils won all but one game in pool play Saturday and earned the championship trophy at their own holiday tournament.
    The Blue Devils went 9-1 in the round robin tournament, sweeping a pair of games each from second-place Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Westmoreland, Little Falls and Old Forge, and splitting with Cooperstown. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill went undefeated against the other four competitors to finish 8-2; Cooperstown was third with its two losses to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and its split with Dolgeville.
    Blue Devil Taylor Brandow was named the tournament’s most valuable player while senior classmates Courtney Rachon and Annabelle Lee were picked for the all-tournament team that also included Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Samantha Kogut and Selena Haas, Cooperstown’s McKenna Hage, Westmoreland’s Allison Brockway, Little Falls’ Lindsey Tolman and Old Forge’s Shelby Egnaczyk.
    Three of the four teams in the junior varsity tournament finished in a tie with matching 4-2 records: Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Cooperstown and Dolgeville.
