SCHUYLER — State police say a 59-year-old man has died in a tractor accident while clearing scrap metal from his Mohawk Valley property.
Troopers say Wayne Johnson Sr. was using a tractor equipped with a bucket to remove the scrap from land in the Herkimer County town of Schuyler, just east of Utica.
They say Johnson had attached a chain to the bucket to secure a large piece of metal at about 7 p.m. Monday. Johnson got between the bucket and the scrap metal and was pinned when the tractor rolled forward and the bucket to fall on him.
Troopers say Johnson remained pinned for an undetermined period of time before being discovered by a passing motorist. He was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, where he was pronounced dead.
