  • FRANKFORT — The K-Kids of Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School conducted a fundraiser for the animals at the Herkimer County Humane Society.
K-Kids is a program through the Frankfort Kiwanis and the children meet after school to do projects, community events and other activities. The group consists of students in grades 3 to 5 who are advised by teachers Kathy Long, Jill DeLuke-Puelo, Heather Scialdo and Theresa Carinci.
Humane society volunteers Jodi Flo and Alesia Forlenza and former shelter dog Myrna Korce met with the students on Nov. 5 and discussed what the shelter does, a typical day at the shelter and what it means to be a responsible pet owner. The students then started a collection of supplies for the animals and Flo and Forlenza went back on Nov. 25 to pick up all the donations.
The Herkimer County Humane Society thanked the K-Kids for thinking of the animals and helping the shelter staff take care of them until they find their forever homes.
School or organizations that would like a “pet program” are asked to contact the shelter at 866-3255.
