  • LITTLE FALLS — Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts will offer a new class, Basic Cartooning: Tips, Tricks and Techniques.
Basic Cartooning is designed with the beginner to intermediate student in mind, age 12 and older, although any skill level can join. Students will learn fundamentals such as writing, drafting and layouts, panel composition, lettering and character creation. Activities will include warm-up sketching, working to convey emotions through facial expressions and body language, story-telling techniques and creating effective backgrounds.
Through a grant from the Burrows Foundation, up to 10 students ages 12 to 17 will be awarded scholarships toward the class fee and materials, bringing the out-of-pocket cost to $35. To apply, students or parents should send an email or letter, by Dec. 17, to the MVCA explaining the student’s interest in the class. Send emails to director@mohawkvalleyarts.org or mail letters to MVCA, 401 Canal Place, Little Falls, NY 13365.
The 10-week class will meet at the art center at 401 Canal Place, Little Falls, on Saturdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Illustrator and graphic artist Matt Trombley, who has studied comics as a medium for over 10 years, will be the instructor. The class fee is $135 for 10 sessions. Students may bring their own materials or purchase materials for $25. Class size is limited to 15 students.
