HERKIMER — The Shoppers Service Program provides free weekly shopping assistance to individuals older than 60 years of age in the Barneveld, Frankfort, Poland and Schuyler area who have difficulty shopping or lack transportation to and from the store.
The cash only program is a partnership between United Cerebral Palsy and the Herkimer County Office of the Aging, and is set up so each week an individual who participates in a UCP program along with a staff member will arrive at the senior’s house at a scheduled time. The senior will provide the UCP shopper with a grocery list and grocery money. The senior and the UCP shopper will review the list and sign a form verifying the amount of money that was given. The shopper will give the senior a time frame of when they can expect them to return with the groceries. Upon returning, the UCP shopper will bring the groceries to the door and give the senior his or her change and receipt. The UCP staff member and senior will then sign a form verifying the correct change was given.
