  • HERKIMER — The local Salvation Army has been committed to serving the residents of the Mohawk Valley through the programs they offer on a daily basis.
The devastating floods that swept through local communities this summer demonstrated the commitment the Salvation Army has to the area. Their members were at the forefront of supplying meals, cleaning supplies and general disaster relief to residents. The Salvation Army canteen vehicle traveled throughout neighborhoods each day bringing comfort to many community members by letting them know people cared and were able to help.
Now, it is the community’s time to show its appreciation for their quick response, according to a news release. Support the local red kettle campaign with any amount you can this year, the release said. “We know many individuals are still recouping from the flood and its aftermath, but the Salvation Army needs your help desperately to maintain the services they provide. We cannot do it without your support,” the release said.
The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to ring bells for red kettles. Organizations, clubs, classes and individuals interested in volunteering for a three-hour shift are asked to contact the Herkimer Corps at 866-1240 and ask for Lt. Wood.
