ILION — The Central Valley Academy Student Council is doing its part to share a little holiday cheer with area seniors.
On Friday, Dec. 20, student council members will board a bus and deliver 52 cheer baskets to senior citizen shut-ins in the Ilion and Mohawk communities.
Roughly 20 students gathered after school on Dec. 16 to fill baskets with canned foods, snacks and activity books. School students and staff contributed the contents and student council purchased the baskets, cellophane wrapping and ribbon to decorate.
“We wanted to do something as a new district to reach out into our communities,” said advisor David Appleton. “We contacted the Herkimer County Office for the Aging and they provided us with the names of possible recipients. It is just a little something nice for the holidays.”
