  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: West Canada Valley defeats Dolgeville

  • NEWPORT, N.Y. — The West Canada Valley Indians let a double-digit lead get away in the first half Thursday but recovered and defeated Dolgeville’s Blue Devils 56-44 for their first win in league play.
    The Indians (2-3, 1-2 CSC-II) scored the game’s first eight points and led 15-4 before Dolgeville (2-4, 0-4 CSC-II) stormed back and took a 20-19 lead.
    Down 17-9 at the end of the first quarter, Dolgeville started the second with a Jackie Fake three-pointer, a Jackie Bange putback and three from Emilie Lewandowski to tie the game. Hayley Yager drove and scored the first basket of the period for West Canada Valley before Dolgeville took the lead on another Fake three-pointer.
    West Canada Valley coach Brian Ellis called a timeout with his team trailing 37-36 3:11 before halftime and the Indians scored the final seven points of the half to take a 33-27 lead.
    Carissa Tasovac had 19 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead the Indians. Morgan Lynch added 13 rebounds with six points while Yager scored 14 points and Danielle VanName had eight.
    Fake scored 14 points and Lewandowski had 13 for the Blue Devils.
