  • Register for January Food Sense package

  • ILION Food Sense, a food co-op program offered through the Food Bank of Central New York and local nonprofit organizations, offers local families a way to save money and purchase foods for less.
    There are no restrictions and everyone qualifies. Each package or unit is filled with meats, vegetables, fruits and grocery items.
    The cost of the package is $15.50, but the market value is closer to $25 to $30, depending on the area where one shops.
    Registration sites and times for the program are as follows:
    Annunciation Parish Center, 60 West St., across from Catholic Charities, Jan. 6 to 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, 228 Crosby Blvd., Old Forge, Dec. 31 to Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    The delivery date for both sites is Jan. 24.
    The list of foods for the January package includes one pound each of meatballs, Italian sausage and chicken breast, 12 ounces veal patties, 5.3 ounce French bread pizza, 28 ounces spaghetti sauce, one pound spaghetti, 25 ounces vegetable medley, 11 ounces Mandarin oranges, 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes and two fresh produce items.
    The specials for January are two pounds pork roast for $5.50; 10 pounds chicken tenders, $14; five pounds Tilapia fillets, $15; five pounds American cheese, $12; five pounds French fries, $3.50; five pounds chicken wings, $9; 12 eight-ounce Hot Pocket sandwiches, $17.
