  • WEST WINFIELD — Herkimer County Humane Society volunteer and board member Jodi Flo and “niece” Myrna Korce went to Mount Markham Elementary School on Dec. 11 and presented a program on animal responsibility, pet safety and what the shelter does to second graders.
The students then started a collection for the animals at the humane society.
Flo, Myrna and Myrna’s “sister” Donna picked up a truck full of donations on Dec. 19.
Every year, the second graders collect items for the humane society before Christmas. Everyone at the shelter thanked the second grade teachers and their students for their donations. Because of their continued kindness, the shelter is able to take care of its animals until they find their forever homes.
In addition to the second graders, fourth grade students also collected for the animals. Flo, Myrna and Donna talked to the students about the shelter and pet responsibility.
