  • The Observer-Dispatch will say farewell to Editor Kris Worrell.
Publisher Donna Donovan said Worrell will be leaving the paper Friday, Jan. 17, to become executive editor of The Press of Atlantic City.
During her three years as editor at the O-D, Worrell has helped transition the paper to a new print location, completed a redesign of the paper, led the creation of Entrée — a monthly magazine published by the paper — and served as regional editor for GateHouse, working with papers in New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Donovan also pointed to the paper receiving the Newspaper of Distinction award by the Associated Press Managing Editors Association of New York as an accomplishment and testament to Worrell's building of the newsroom.
"Most important, Kris has focused intensely on developing the skills of her colleagues in news, through training, coaching and mentoring," Donovan said in an email to O-D staff. "That is why we have the excellent news team we have today."
While Worrell said she is proud of other aspects such as "Who We Are" and "Entrée," she is proudest of the crew she's worked with.
"I'm really proud of the staff," Worrell said Friday. "I just feel like the last three years have been challenging for us — for all papers. It says a lot about how dedicated the staff is and that's not going to change with me leaving."
A search will begin immediately to fill Worrell's position.
