  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: CVA earns first win in league play

  • CANASTOTA, N.Y. — The Central Valley Academy Thunder shut Canastota out in the second quarter on the way to a 43-21 win over the Raiders.
    The win was the second in three games for the Thunder (2-6, 1-2 CSC-I) and the team’s first in league play. Central Valley Academy led 10-8 after the opening period and 25-8 after a third-quarter three-pointer capped an extended 15-0 run.
    Audrey Bunce scored a team-high nine points for Central Valley Academy which had nine players in the scoring column. Makayla Donato added seven points and Rachael Thorp scored six.
    April Dabrowski scored nine points for Canastota (2-6, 0-4 CSC-I).
    Central Valley Academy plays at home Thursday against Cooperstown.

    RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Richfield Springs Indians rung in the new year Monday by beating Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville for the second time in 10 days.
    The Indians, 43-24 winners in St. Johnsville Dec. 28, were 47-24 winners on their home court Monday. They led 9-1 after an opening period during which the Wolves scored only on a Kirsten Raux foul shot and held a 14-point edge at halftime.
    Rebecca Smith led Richfield Springs (5-3) with 19 points while Vanessa Miller had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Kaity Richvalsky scored eight points.
    Jessi Hagadorn scored 10 points for Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (0-10).
    Richfield Springs returns to Tri-Valley League play at home Wednesday with a game against Laurens. The Wolves’ next game is Friday at home against Galway.

    DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Cooperstown Hawkeyes led by 22 points at halftime Monday on the way to a 69-28 win over the Dolgeville Blue Devils.
    Liz Millea scored 21 points for the Hawkeyes (5-3, 3-2 CSC-II) who outscored their hosts 17-4 in the first quarter and led 36-14 at halftime. Lucy Ford added 16 points while S.J. Morosko and Ciarra McGoldrick each scored nine.
    Page 2 of 2 - Jackie Bange led Dolgeville (2-7, 0-5 CSC-II) with 10 points. Emilie Lewandowski scored eight.
    The Blue Devils take on Westmoreland at home Thursday. Cooperstown plays at Central Valley Academy Thursday.
