UTICA — The YWCA Mohawk Valley is preparing for its 26th annual Salute to Outstanding Women event, which shines a light on the contributions and achievements of women who live and work in Herkimer and Oneida counties.
Eight women are nominated for and selected to represent one of the following categories: arts and communications; business and industry; education; health care; human and public services; professions; racial justice and unsung heroine.
Starting in January the community nominates women they know. After the Feb. 6 deadline, an independent panel of judges reviews the nomination forms and selects the honorees, who are honored at the annual Salute to Outstanding Women luncheon. This year the luncheon will take place at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro on April 3.
If someone has submitted a name in the past, but that individual wasn’t selected, YWCA Mohawk Valley Executive Director Natalie Brown encourages another try.
“Please consider nominating them again,” Brown said. “We receive so many submissions that are truly a testament to the caliber of women living and working in the Mohawk Valley. We want everyone to have an opportunity.”
Nomination forms may be filled out online at www.ywcamv.org. Hard copies of the form are also available at the YWCA Mohawk Valley. Nomination deadline is Thursday, Feb. 6, at noon.
