  • BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Magicians beat Mustangs in crossover

  • WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — Mitchell Scherer had a double-double Saturday and came through at the foul line, as well, in leading the Herkimer Magicians to a 52-47 crossover win over the Mt. Markham Mustangs.
    Scherer had 15 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots for Herkimer (3-9) and shot 7-for-9 at the foul line where the Magicians were 18-for-25 as a team. Malik Briggs added 11 points and Tucker Vogt scored nine as the Magicians won for the second time in three games.
    Travis Nelson led the Mustangs (5-7) with 21 points. Mike Alsante scored 10.
    Herkimer takes on Dolgeville at home Tuesday. Mt. Markham is home for games Tuesday against Morrisville-Eaton and Thursday against Sauquoit Valley; Thursday’s game is Mt. Markham’s fourth annual Pink Game, a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.

    BLESSED VIRGIN MARY MOTHER OF GOD ACADEMY 76, overtime
    VAN HORNESVILLE, N.Y. — After an unexpected delay to the start of their game Saturday, the Owen D. Young Wildcats made the crowd wait a little longer for the conclusion of their 82-76 win over Blessed Virgin Mary Academy of Warners.
    The teams were tied at 69 at the end of regulation and Owen D. Young outscored the Saints 13-7 in the four-minute overtime period.
    Marty Collins scored 31 points and Maxwell Crisman had 30 for the Wildcats (9-4) who bounced back with a win after New York Mills ended their seven-game winning streak Thursday. Matt Cristman added seven points in Saturday’s win.
    Alex Mills scored 21 points for Blessed Virgin Mary Academy (7-2). James Payne (18 points), Anthony Mariani (16) and Tom Petersen (13) also scored in double figures.
    The start of the game was delayed by 90 minutes by an apparent misunderstanding with the referees about the lack of a junior varsity contest.
    Owen D. Young returns to league play in Division IV of the Center State Conference Tuesday when the Wildcats travel to Poland.

    BOONVILLE, N.Y. — The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders outscored Adirondack 34-17 in the second half Saturday and kept their record perfect in Division I of the Center State Conference with a 65-41 win over the Wildcats.
    Cody Marango scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for the Marauders (10-3, 6-0 CSC-I). Kevin Vibbard scored 14 points, Derek Capria had 13 and Austin Jasper added 10.
    Ryan Dellerba led the Wildcats (5-7, 2-4 CSC-I) with 11 points.
    Adirondack is home for a game Tuesday against Central Valley Academy.
