  • UTICA — WKTV NewsChannel 2 is partnering with the Great American Irish Festival Committee to broadcast this year’s Utica St. Patrick’s Day Parade from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 15.
“Every year we take dozens of phone calls from viewers wanting us to broadcast the parade. So we listened, and are thrilled to bring this great event into people’s homes,” said Steve McMurray, station manager and news director at WKTV, in a news release. “This is one of the community’s signature events, and as the Mohawk Valley’s ‘community station,’ it’s a natural fit.”
“The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Utica is growing every year, and now adding a live television broadcast makes it even more spectacular,” said Judy Weeks, parade director and assistant director of the Great American Irish Festival, in the release. The GAIF took over coordinating the parade in 2008.
McMurray will host the parade with NewsChannel 2 at 6 p.m. co-anchor Kristen Copeland. NewsChannel 2 at 11 p.m. anchor Don Shipman and WKTV meteorologist Jill Reale will report along the parade route, which runs along Genesee Street from Oneida Square to Lafayette Street.
WKTV plans on rebroadcasting the parade on CW 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, giving those who attend the parade in person the opportunity to relive it the next day.
