  • A Richfield Springs man is facing charges after Ilion police said he hid in his estranged wife’s vehicle and held her at knifepoint from behind.
Cory Boepple, 48, was charged Thursday with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, aggravated criminal contempt, all felonies, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, police said.
Police said Boepple hid in his wife’s vehicle until she got out of work. As his wife was driving home, Boepple then allegedly placed his arm around the woman from the back seat and threatened her with a knife, police said.
The woman was able to alert a witness, who then called Ilion police. Based on the vehicle’s last known direction of travel, Ilion and Mohawk police were able to stop the vehicular on Route 5S and take Boepple into custody without further incident, police said.
The woman was treated for her injuries at Little Falls Hospital, while Boepple was remanded to the Herkimer County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail or $60,000 bond.
