  • Autopsy results have not yet revealed why a 22-year-old soccer star at Herkimer County Community College suddenly died over the weekend.
While Pete McAvoy’s death Saturday evening remained under investigation Monday, authorities expect to possibly have more answers by the end of this week.
An autopsy was completed by about noon Monday, and there is no indication that alcohol or any other substance played a role in the death, Herkimer County Coroner Vincent Enea explained. Toxicology test results are still pending, however.
“At this time, I don’t see anything of a suspicious nature and it appears to be more of a health issue,” Enea said. “I can’t say anything more than that until we get into further reports.”
McAvoy – a sophomore from Dundee, Scotland – collapsed in his campus apartment at about 6 p.m. Saturday, police said. An unresponsive McAvoy was taken to Little Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Monday, Herkimer Village Police would not release any new information as long as McAvoy’s death remains under investigation.
“We’ve got a young male here that has passed away, and it’s always going to raise concerns, so we’re going to follow-up any leads we have to rule out foul play or any other circumstances,” Herkimer police Investigator Chad Manley said.
