  • UTICA — The Oneida-Madison-Herkimer School Boards Institute, the umbrella group for school boards in the three counties, will conduct its annual workshop for prospective school board candidates, “So You Want to be a School Board Member,” on Saturday, May 3.
The three-hour morning session will inform those interested in running for their local boards about the role of the school board member, ethics in education, school finance, board-superintendent relations and the role of BOCES.
Registration for the workshop will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the Oneida Room at the Oneida BOCES on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford. The workshop will run from 8:45 a.m. until noon. The workshop is free and open to anyone who may be considering a run for a school board seat in Oneida, Madison and Herkimer counties in the May 20 elections.
Those interested in attending may contact James VanWormer, executive coordinator, at 941-6229 or their local school district superintendent. Walk-ins are welcome.
