  • NEWPORT — David Lee “Bear” Guyer, 67, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at his home, after a brief illness, with his companion of 35 years, Lorraine Quayle, and his family by his side.
    David was born July 22, 1946, in Herkimer, the son of the late Merton and Marguerite (Lowell) Guyer and attended Mohawk schools.
    On May 16, 1970, David married the late Rosemary Murphy in Herkimer.
    Mr. Guyer was employed for many years as a custodian at Herkimer County Community College. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and his animals.
    David is survived by David Laymon and Judy of Nevada, Laura Guyer and Chris of Ilion, Julie Kent and Derrick of Herkimer, Jennie Daniels and Todd of Gloversville, Shane Guyer of Stark, Scott Guyer of Newport, Jason Guyer and Heather of Ilion, Sara Guyer and Ray of Little Falls, Amanda Quayle and Greg of Rochester, David Guyer and Steph of Ilion, Joseph Quayle and Tina of Ilion, Cherish Guyer and Ron of Fort Plain, Jeramy Quayle and Jessica of Newport, Charles Guyer of Mohawk, Jessica Comstock and Nathan of Fairfield, Josh Guyer and Kayla of Herkimer and Justin Guyer of Fairfield.
    He was very active in the lives of his girlfriend’s children, Julie Smith of Hamilton, Rhonda Hayes and Fred of Newport, Jennifer Hayes and Jerry of Newport, Melissa Quayle of Mohawk, Rebecca Quayle and Dan of Poland and Donald Quayle and Crystal of Mohawk; a brother, Lauren, of Ilion; and two sisters, Margaret and Janet. David has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
    His grandson, Nathan Shepard; granddaughter, Kali Guyer; sister, Beatrice; and four brothers, Kenny, Mert, Don and Clarence, predeceased him.
    David’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 4 p.m. from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, 866-1500. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 2 p.m. until the time of the services.
