    WEST CANADA VALLEY 4
DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils played an extra inning for the second day in a row and won again Thursday.
The Blue Devils followed Wednesday’s 7-4 win in Cooperstown with a 5-4 victory over West Canada Valley in their home opener. West Canada Valley took a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the eighth but Dolgeville came back and won with two in the bottom of the inning.
Alex Johnson delivered the winning hit with two outs, singling home Danny Fox and Josh Gross. Fox had reached base on an error and Gross was hit by a pitch ahead of Johnson’s second hit of the game.
Josh Sudakow had scored the go-ahead run for West Canada Valley on Brandon Roberts’ single in the top of the eighth.
Sudakow pitched a complete game and took the loss for the Indians. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving home one run with a double in the first inning and another with a sacrifice fly in the third. Roberts and Josh Chapin each added two hits for the Indians and Cole Smith scored two runs. Colin Warmingham had a hit and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Johann Doerrer, who saved Wednesday’s win by recording the final out with the bases loaded, pitched the eighth inning in relief of Fox Thursday and picked up a win. Dakota Walrath had a two-run single in the first inning and Kasey Foster, who also had a hit and a run scored, tied the game at 3 with his sacrifice fly in the third. Reid Johnson scored two runs.
Doerrer, playing left field with Fox on the mound, had thrown Sudakow out at the plate earlier in the game.
The win evens the season’s series between the teams. West Canada Valley defeated Dolgeville 7-4 in nine innings in a non-league game at Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville’s inaugural Ben Conte Memorial Tournament April 12. Dolgeville had scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send that game to extra innings. The teams meet again in Newport May 9.
