  • SCHOLASTIC SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Holland Patent edges Herkimer

  • HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. — Herkimer tied Monday’s game with a run in the top of the seventh and Holland Patent’s Golden Knights won it 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the inning.
    Herkimer had scored a run in the first inning. Holland Patent tied the game at 1 in the third and took the lead in the sixth.
    Each team had five hits.
    Herkimer is 15th in NYSSCOGS’ first Class C state rankings of the season.

    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — Natalie Orsino had three of Frankfort-Schuyler’s four hits in Monday’s 7-2 loss to the Oriskany Redskins.
    Danielle Manna had two hits and scored two runs for Oriskany. Jordan Sahl pitched the four-hitter and contributed a pair of hits of her own at the plate.
    Frankfort-Schuyler pitcher Katie Raab struck out seven batters.

    DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning Monday and defeated Dolgeville 8-6 on the road.
    The nine-inning game was the second in a row for Dolgeville which was beaten in extra innings Friday by Old Forge.
    Jessica Vellone had three hits, Morgan Barber had two, and each scored two runs for Westmoreland, Callie Cushman had two runs batted in.
    Mercedes Rumrill homered for the Blue Devils.

    COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Maria Noto pitched a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts for Cooperstown Monday in the Hawkeyes’ 14-0 win over the Central Valley Academy Thunder.
    Jennifer Flynn had three hits and four runs batted in for the Hawkeyes, ranked 11th in the state by NYSSCOGS in Class C, and Mallory Arthurs had a two-run triple. Christina Noto and Alexie Tsouvas each scored three runs; Noto had two hits.
    Stephanie Hurteau and Taylor Lindig had the Central Valley Academy hits.

    Josie Sgarlata pitched a two-hit shutout for Canastota in the first five-inning game in West Winfield. Julia Collins doubled and tripled in the second.

    RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Richfield Springs Indians rallied in the fifth inning Monday and defeated Morris 9-3.
    The Indians (7-1, 4-1 TVL), ranked 14th in NYSSCOGS’ first Class D poll of the season, trailed 3-1 at home before scoring seven runs in the fifth. Sierra Butler and Meghan Cantwell each had a two-run single in the inning.
    Madisyn Butler pitched a two-hitter for Richfield Springs. Morris scored its three runs in the top of the fourth.
