  • Winfield man arrested at Charlestown

  • FRANKFORT A West Winfield man was arrested on several charges after Frankfort Town Police found him hiding on the premises of Charlestown Mall.
    Donald P. Birmingham, 41, was charged with seventh- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools and trespass.
    The arrest stemmed from an investigation after a town of Frankfort police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Charlestown Mall on Bleecker Street in the town of Frankfort. Police located Birmingham when officers conducted an inspection of the property.
    The suspect was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and cocaine and had power tools, hand tools, blowtorches and more drugs and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, police said.
    Police also had learned the suspect has a history of arrests for burglary, larceny and drug possession in Oneida and Herkimer counties and was on probation from Herkimer County for a previous felony charge.
    Additional charges are pending.
    The village of Frankfort Police Department assisted with the arrest.
