  • Here are five ways to have fun this Fourth of July weekend.
    1. The rockets’ red glare will be on full display Friday as people celebrate Independence Day. And this year, thanks to the Friday date, you and your kids can stay out late and sleep in the next day! Check out the paper for listings of when fireworks shows begin in your area.
    2. The long Fourth of July weekend means there should be plenty of festivals, parades, food events and the like taking place. Check the newspaper for listings and prepare for fun.
    3. This week’s big movies (opening Wednesday) are “Tammy,” an R-rated comedy starring the amazing Melissa McCarthy; “Deliver Us From Evil,” an R horror flick starring Eric Bana; and “Earth to Echo,” an ‘80s-style PG sci-fi adventure film that looks absolutely magical.
    4. July is National Ice Cream Month, and nothing goes better with the holiday than ice cream, so head to your favorite ice cream shop this weekend, or make your own ice cream sundaes at home. And don’t forget the red, white and blue sprinkles!
    5. If you want some sports as American as apple pie, baseball will be in action all weekend. If you want some games with a lot on the line, check out the World Cup action. Quarterfinal games will take place Saturday and Sunday. Check ESPN or your sports section for more information.
