  • MILLERS MILLS, N.Y. — The Millers Mills Sundae Run will celebrate 20 years when it is run July 20.
The challenging five-kilometer USATF-certified course draws a competitive field to the hamlet with awards featuring the work of local artisans. Numerous door prizes are awarded and old-fashioned ice cream is served at the end of the race. Non-runners can participate in a two-mile walk with door prizes and ice cream. Leone Timing will provide the race results this year.
The race starts and finishes at the bridge in Millers Mills.
Runners can take advantage of the discounted entry fee of $15 ($13 for seniors 60 and over) if they register no later than Friday. After that, the race day rate of $25 will be charged; the walker entry fee is $5. The first 100 registered runners are guaranteed a commemorative running hat. Race day registration runs 7:30-8:30 a.m. and both events start at 9:15 a.m.
Runners and walkers can register online at www.runsignup.com, or mail in the application which is available at the Grange website, www.millersmillsny.com.
The course records belong to Josh and Caleb Edmonds of Cooperstown for the men (15:57 in 2012), and Moira Ryan of Washington, D.C., for the women (20:12 in 2007).
The top overall finishers, age group finishers, and the “middle-of-the-pack runner” receive awards.
The Sundae Run is held in conjunction with the Millers Mills Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social. After the race, musical entertainment, horse-drawn hay rides, crafts, timber sports demos, crosscut sawing, a church pie sale, and children’s activities round out the day. Ice cream, cake, hot dogs and other refreshments will be available.
The race is sponsored by the Millers Mills Grange and is part of the Route 20 Road Challenge.
