  • PGCBL: Seven DiamondDawgs among PGCBL all-stars

  • ELMIRA, N.Y. — Seven DiamondDawgs will make the trip west from the Mohawk Valley to play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game next week and Zach Collett will pull double duty as the team’s entry in the pre-game home run derby at Dunn Field.
    Joining Collett on the East Division squad from Mohawk Valley are pitchers Ed Lewicki, Nick Petrella and Lucas Godlewski, infielders Trey Stover and Colin Hawk, and outfielder Jayson Sullivan.
    The East Division team includes players form Amsterdam, Glens Falls and Albany and will be coached by Amsterdam’s Keith Griffin.
    Matt Burch, whose Elmira Pioneers will be hosting the game, will coach the West Division with additional players from Utica, Adirondack, Watertown and Newark.
    Collett, a corner infielder from the University of New Haven, is batting .329 with a team-high 19 runs batted in and six doubles, and shares the PGCBL lead with four home runs. He is tied for the team lead with 17 runs scored.
    Hawk, a middle infielder from the University of Cincinnati, is batting .293 with 17 runs batted in.
    Stover, a middle infielder from the University of Hartford, leads the DiamondDawgs with a .330 batting average and is tied with Collett with 17 runs scored. He has driven in 15 runs and stolen nine bases in 12 tries.
    Sacred Heart’s Sullivan is batting .314 with with eight stolen bases and 14 runs scored.
    Godlewski, a Little Falls native pitching at Herkimer County Community College, has three wins, including a complete game victory in his only start, and leads the team with a 2.18 ERA. He has struck out 18 batters and walked 11 while allowing 18 hits in 20 2/3 innings.
    Siena’s Lewicki has a win and three no-decisions in four starts. He has compiled a 2.66 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 13 walks in 23 2/3 innings.
    Skidmore’s Petrella is 4-0 in five starts with a 2.25 ERA. He has struck out 24 batters and walked six in a team-high 32 innings.
    The game will be played Tuesday. Gates open at 4 p.m. Players will go through drills for scouts first with the home run derby to follow as part of the pre-game festivities.
    In addition to Collett, derby participants include Adirondack’s Mark Williams and Watertown’s Willi Martin, his co-leaders in the PGCBL home run race, Albany’s Nick Jewett, Amsterdam’s Jake Salpietro, Glens Falls’ Brennan Price, Elmira’s Zac Bellinger, Newark’s Zach Wall, and Utica’s Corey Lerche.
