The 38th running of the Falling Leaves will be taking place on Sunday, September 23rd. Few people realize that this race predates the Boilermaker. Like the Boilermaker the Falling Leaves has expanded from the run that started it all (a 14k/ 8.7 miles) to offer a variety of distances tailored to a variety of abilities. Also offered are a 5k and a Kid’s Run for ages 2-12 (no fee, age appropriate distance).
This is the signature event that the Utica Roadrunners host. Currently there are over 1,100 signed up to run and it appears they are on track to having a record showing. The first 1,400 registrants get a very nice long sleeve tech shirt.
It looks like the weather in Utica on Sunday is going to be tremendous- a bit cool in the morning, but zero chance of rain and eventually heating up to seventy. A perfect Fall day to hit the pavement.
There will be sign ups on Saturday the 24th at the FX Matt Brewery from 9 am to 5 pm and race day from 6:45 am- 8:30 am at the Radisson. Signups for the Kid’s Run take place at FX Matt Brewery on Saturday.

It is simply amazing the amount of quality races this community offers and has offered for a very, very long time. The running boom hit this area far sooner than many parts of the country.
See you there!
BTW: Even though the 14k is slightly shorter than the Boilermaker race the hills through the golf course/ switchbacks make this race an absolute monster!
