Warren and the art of political distraction

By Rick Holmes

As I’ll argue in my Sunday column, the attacks on Elizabeth Warren over the ancestry issue have a familiar ring.  The people who dislike a candidate in the first place find a tiny chink in her armor, hammer on it every day, week after week, inflate it into an indictment of her character, and hope voters don’t figure out it’s based on something trivial and irrelevant.

Warren and her campaign have done a terrible job responding to this business, of course. But there’s lots of time to ride out this rough patch. She’s got a big moment Saturday at the Democratic Convention in Springfield.

I’ll be there, so I’ll bring you some live-blogging updates here. And I’ll be tweeting as well, @HolmesAndCo.
