Hiking - local color is beautiful!

Now is the transition time between summer and winter, the time when the colors burn brightest before being extinguished by the winds and snow of the coming months.  It's time to get outside and breathe in the fresh, crisp air, wrap yourself in wool sweaters and socks and drink in the vibrancy of the season.  Although the colors are past peak in the Old Forge area and north, the Mohawk Valley is splendid right now.  Every hillside is a kaleidoscope of hues.  I have often thought if only a carpet maker could replicate a fall hillside it would be like walking in fallen leaves all year long!

And speaking of fallen leaves, can you remember the fun of raking them into huge piles and jumping into them?  Burrowing in until you were all covered or burying a friend?  What about the smell of burning leaves that seemed to permeate a fall day?  Does anyone still burn leaves-it is a smell I miss.  Go outside and find your hidden child and a pile of leaves - life is short, enjoy!
