Internet: Creating a Pinterest Community Board

Pinterest  is the fastest growing site on the internet.  From May, 2011 until July, 2012, Pinterest grew 4377%, according to comScore.  It’s one of my favorite sites.

Pinterest contains bulletin boards which are customizable according to personal preferences.  The idea is that in our travels around the internet we can “pin” things we like and don’t want to lose to our bulletin boards.   We can save everything from recipes, craft ideas, quotes, dream vacations, home remodeling, babies, tools or really just anything you can imagine.  We can follow the friends we wish and they can follow us.  We can repin items from other boards to our boards or have others repin our items.  It’s fun and it’s catchy.

Marketers across the globe are trying to cash in on the popularity of Pinterest by studying what people like, how they are pinning and what people are looking for.  More and more pictures are showing up on the internet with the hopes that they will gain more appeal and exposure.  It’s working very well for some and not so well for others.

So here’s a new idea for your Pinterest boards that I just saw on Twitter.  Creating a community board where your friends or work colleagues can contribute.  Invite other friends to contribute to the same board.  Kind of like a Facebook Group, Pinterest groups can be created for anything that interests them.  Examples would be corroboration on a group project, Christmas family boards for gift ideas, community outreach programs and well, you get the idea.

So here’s how to create a Pinterest community board.

Go to the board you wish to make your community board.  Click the EDIT button.   On the next page you can type in the names of the people who would like to include in your community board.   They will receive an invitation to join the board.  Once they accept, they can begin pinning on their own.

I’ve just created two community boards.  One for scrapbooking and another for Christmas ideas.  The first is for my scrapbooking friends to share ideas.  The other is for my family to post some of their favorite Christmas items including gift suggestions.   It was so easy and will be so much fun!
