Fermer Precision has partnered with a downstate company for a new product line.
Mark Cushman, vice president of operations at Fermer Precision, said its workers will make power transmission components that will be assembled by Rockland Standard Gear, located in Sloatsburg in Rockland County.
“It’s a real exciting day for two great New York state companies,” he said.
The product line will include an aluminum transmission replacement case that will come with a lifetime guarantee. The item can be used and modified for a range of vehicles, from the “mom and pop station wagon to the high-performance quality vehicles,” said Cushman.
Fermer Precision have been given certificates of registrations from Rockland Standard Gears to produce the equipment that will either “meet or exceed” original equipment manufacturer specifications. It is uncertain if this new product line will create new jobs to the area.
“We’re working closely with Rockland Standard and assesesing the market. One of the postiive impacts may be with employment,” said Cushman.
Mike Weinberg, president of Rockland Standard Gear, was present for a conference with workers about the launching of this new product line. He praised the start of the new product and said he was proud of keeping the products American-made.
“Most Americans would like to see American-made products,” he said.
State Senator James Seward, R,C,I - Milford, took a tour of the facility before the start of the conference.
“This is the type of company that is very important to the economic base in the area and is a real key to our economic future,” said Seward as he congratulated the partnership that was formed between the two companies and for keeping jobs in New York.
“This partnership provides additional markets for Fermer Precision and means only good things for this area,” he later said to workers.
Fermer announced in July 2009 that they would be working with Rockland Standard, which supplies stock automotive, high-performance and racing components, to develop this new product line. Their product trademark line is called Tranzilla and is used in the Grand Am Koni Challenge, the Grand Am Rolex Series, the Speed World Challenge, SCCA, NHRA, NMRA, the European and Asian GT Series, and other racing events around the world.
