As the demand for flu vaccines reached a fever pitch last week, forcing county Public Health Department officials to extend a clinic by three hours, a continuation of long lines and delays at upcoming clinics seemed inevitable.
But a new scheduling system approved by the Human Resources Committee Tuesday could soon eliminate the uncertainty hindering a controlled distribution of immunizations.
Dr. Gregory O’ Keefe, Public Heath director, said the $7,000 scheduling system, through ACC Technical Services, would allow the county to set vaccine appointments.
The county currently doesn’t accept vaccination appointments, which is at least partly responsible for last week’s rush on the clinic.
If the Legislature approves the purchase next week, which O’Keefe feels can be covered by grants, it will take about 10 days before appointments can start to be taken.
