PRODUCT: Land O’Lakes Saute Express

DETAILS: It’s a blend of seasoned butter and olive oil in premeasured portions, intended to be used for a quick saute. Flavors are Italian Herb, Garlic & Herb, Savory Butter & Olive Oil and Lemon Pepper.

CLAIMS: “Simply toss a Saute Express square in a nonstick saute pan until it begins to bubble and sizzle; add fresh chicken, pork, shrimp or fish; saute in less than 30 minutes,” reads a company news release. Each block cooks 2 pieces of meat.

MORE INFORMATION: (800) 328-4155

AVAILABILITY: Near the butter in supermarkets, including Meijer

SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE: $3.79 for six 1-ounce blocks

COMMENTS: We cooked chicken breasts in the Italian Herb flavor. It was easy and yielded a tasty and fast meal, but the convenience comes at a price. “For less money, I could add butter, olive oil and spices to a pan myself.” “The chicken is nicely browned with some basil, oregano and thyme.” “It couldn’t be easier.”

WOULD YOU BUY IT? Yes. Although we have some misgivings about the price, we like the convenience and the fact that the fat is seasoned.
