Crafting a golf course from scratch on empty, wooded land, is a long, intricate process that involves a myriad steps.

Remington Arms in Ilion will be receiving 100 new manufacturing jobs at its facility in conjunction with a $1.5 million senate capital grant that was unveiled by Sen. James Seward at Remington Arms on Monday.

The Ilion Free Public Library has received a $104,059 library construction grant from the state.

“The Stevens Swan Humane Society of Oneida County recently held a telethon to raise money for their shelter,” new Board of Directors member Ed View Jr. said. “Many people have the notion that we might see some of that money at our shelter. The Herkimer County Humane Society and other shelters like them did not benefit from that fund-raiser.”

The branch officially opened Dec. 27, 2007, but held its ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration Thursday.
