The Mohawk Fire Department received a call of a vehicle engulfed in flames Wednesday at 6:25 p.m.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 2769 State Route 168 in the town of German Flatts at 6:31 p.m.
According to fire Chief Dan Mabbett, resident Heather Ritton’s Ford Explorer was on fire at the residence. “After about 20 minutes after arriving on scene the fire was under control,” he said.
No one was injured during the fire, said Mabbett.
“The cause of the fire was due to a leak in the transmission that leaked on to the exhaust,” he said.
Due to the toxicity of the fluids spilled Mabbett said the New York State Department of Transportation was called to sand the road.
