All 40 signs promoting Vincent Iocovozzi’s candidacy for Herkimer County District 4 coroner in the village of Frankfort have come up missing.
“All of the signs are missing, including three signs that were placed on the Frankfort Street side of my business,” Iocovozzi said Thursday afternoon. “It’s frustrating because this happened to me the last time I ran for office and because I paid for these signs myself. I don’t know if this is a case of kids being kids or if it something else entirely, but I’m hoping to find out the reason behind it.”
Iocovozzi has contacted Frankfort village and town police and is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the individual or individuals involved in the overnight theft.
“Not only are the small signs that people put on their lawns missing, but larger signs are missing as well,” he said. “It looks as though a sizable sign that was placed near the Herkimer County Fairgrounds on Cemetery Street was pulled or ripped from the ground with the help something. Just looking at where the sign used to be you can see that the 2x4s that were holding it were broken.”
Iocovozzi said he fielded telephone calls from residents and supporters throughout the day.
“I’ve been receiving calls about missing signs and from people asking me for a replacement sign for their yard,” he said. “I’ve even received calls from residents in the town of Litchfield concerning missing signs. As a result of those calls, I will be looking to verify if signs are missing elsewhere.”
Iocovozzi added that has ordered more signs and will distribute them to supporters.
“I am hopeful that someone out there can help provide answers,” he said. “Cemetery Street, in particular, is a busy street and someone driving through the area could have easily seen something.”
Iocovozzi, owner and operator of the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home in Frankfort and the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home in Herkimer, and Harry Enea Jr., president of Enea Family Funeral Homes, are seeking the coroner’s position that was vacated by John Day, of Ilion.
The district encompasses the villages of Frankfort, Ilion and Mohawk, as well as the towns of Frankfort, Winfield, Columbia, Litchfield and German Flatts.
Other county coroners include Daniel Rivet, District 1; Brian Roberts, District 2; and Daniel Enea, District 3.
