A local man was arrested on several charges, including possession of marijuana, as the result of an investigation into a fire, according to Mohawk police.
The Mohawk Fire Department responded Dec. 12, 2012, to a report of a structure fire at 79 E. Main St. Firefighters determined the fire was caused by food left on a stove. While looking for other possible factors, they discovered bags of marijuana in the residence and contacted police.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the residence and seized more than three pounds of marijuana, marijuana butter making material, other drug paraphernalia and a stolen .38 caliber handgun.
Mohawk police arrested Jesse G. Antonuk, 22, on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
Antonuk was arraigned and committed to the Herkimer County jail in lieu of $8,000 cash bail or $16,000 bail bond.
The Herkimer Police Department assisted Mohawk in this case.
