A 24-year-old Salisbury Center man died Monday morning in an apparent drowning at Stewart’s Landing in the town of Stratford, Fulton County sheriff’s deputies said.
Undersheriff Kevin Lenahan said the man’s identity could not be released because his family had not been notified yet. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Monday afternoon at Albany Medical Center. The results of the autopsy are pending further investigation.
Lenahan said the Herkimer County 911 Center had issued a missing person report for the man. He said the body was recovered in water by the dam on Stewart Landing Road between 2:30 and 3 a.m.
Fulton County Coroner Art Simmons pronounced the man dead at the scene at 5:20 a.m.
While the man’s death is believed to be accidental, the investigation is continuing.
Monday’s apparent drowning in the town of Stratford came days after the body of a Little Falls man was found along the bank of the Barge Canal. Herkimer County Coroner Daniel Enea said Thursday Bruce Rohacek, 56, lost his balance and fell from a rock, suffering a head injury.
State police assisted Little Falls police and fire department personnel in searching for Rohacek, and his vehicle was located about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday parked at the end of River Road in Little Falls.
A state police K-9 unit was used in the search, and Rohacek’s body was found at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday a short distance from where his car was parked.
